Laksvatn is located in Balsfjord municipality, right next to Tromsø municipality. In Balsfjord there is 5500 inhabitants, where farming, and after a while industrial means is a way to feed their families. Several people commute to Tromsø to work, either everyday or once a week. The community center is Storsteinnes with 1200 inhabitants. It’s a 37-kilometer drive to Laksvatn from Storsteinnes. Nordkjosbotn, or Vollan, located midway between Laksvatn and Storsteinnes, is the municipality’s second largest village. It’s one of Northern Norway’s largest traffic junctions, where E6 towards the north and the south, and E8 towards Tromsø are connected. It lives roughly 600 people at Nordkjosbotn. Laksvatn has 200 inhabitants.
